Socking away a little extra each week into your retirement account can have a big impact down the line. Saving just $20 weekly translates into more than $1,000 a year, plus interest. After 20 years at 5% interest, you’ll have built up $36,100. After 30 years, $72,600. At a 10% return, the number grows to $65,500 after 20 years and up to $188, 200 after 30 years.

Save the Date - Caring for the Caregiver Conference at WVSU Sept 11 - 13!

The “Caring for the Caregiver Conference” started from a reported increase of grandparents raising grandchildren and foster parenting.  The focus did not shift from this population completely.  It focused on other aspects of caregiving because of the baby boom generation having to care for dependent children, grandchildren, and/or aging parents or other relatives.  There was a need for caregivers and professionals to become cognizant of education and other resources available to them to help with the responsibilities they had assumed.

WVSU re-launches Economic Development Center on Charleston’s West Side

WVSU re-launches Economic Development Center on Charleston’s West Side

Renovations are complete on West Virginia State University’s redesigned Economic Development Center (EDC) located at 1506 Kanawha Boulevard on Charleston’s West Side. EDC, which has served over 2,000 individuals since its original inception, will celebrate its re-launch with a series of events beginning at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10.

WVSU Extension Service to host workshop on irrigation and rain barrels

    West Virginia State University Extension Service will host a workshop on garden irrigation and rain barrel construction/usage on Wednesday, April 11, from 2-3 p.m. at the Rock Lake Community Life Center in South Charleston.

    “In our current economic climate, we can all stand to find ways to save a little money,” says Scott Byars, Program Leader for Agriculture and Natural Resources. “The ability to capture and utilize ‘free’ water is the idea behind this workshop.”
